Mossa to Lluc

This almost circular 17km walk begins at the gate to Mossa Farm, circumnavigates Puig Roig on a contouring path and descends into an agriculturally-rich valley past farmhouses and orchards before ascending to Lluc and reaching the courtyard of the Monastery. The views combining mountain and sea are some of the best on the island. One can only access the private land of Mossa on a Sunday.

The walk

The walk begins by the Farm gate at Km15.3 on the Ma-10, 5km to the north of Lluc. We follow a dirt track towards the farmhouse and turn onto a stone track. The path climbs traversing a cliff face and reaches the Coll des Ases. Behind us rises the hulk of Puig Tomir. After following a rugged path through dense carritx we join a buttressed path which follows the contours around Puig Roig.

With a morning start much of this section is shaded. It makes a good stop for a snack. The views over the sea are sensational. The Torre de Lluc stands proud and the Moro de sa Vaca headland, which marks the northerly entrance to sa Calobra, lies beyond. On the western side Puig Major and its radar station loom large in the distance.

As the path gradually descends it becomes vague in places passing through thick carritx. Eventually the isolated former police house, Quarter de Carabiners, is visible ahead. It is a relic of the island’s smuggling history. The path turns eastwards and then descends sharply to a dirt track.

After passing the unusual cave houses at Cosconar the track descends through a series of bends to a level plain. Stretching our legs we pass olive and fig trees and grand farmhouses. The large cross ahead betrays the location of Lluc. After a final ascent the path levels and we arrive in the courtyard of the Monastery.

This walk can only be done on a Sunday. It is offered as a private walk. Price on application.

We all returned home with delightful memories of our wonderful time walking in the hills of Mallorca.
