Puig de Galatzó from Galilea

Although only 1027m in height the pyramid-shaped Puig de Galatzó stands proud and distinctive at the southwestern end of the Serra de Tramuntana. The panoramic views from the summit are spectacular including the Bay of Palma and the central plain to the east.

The walk

This walk approaches Puig de Galatzó from the southern side. It is best described as an elongated lollipop starting in Galilea (450m), heading north along a track to Font des Pi, ascending through woodland to Coll des Carniceret, taking a path to the southern side of Galatzó and ascending to its peak over a rocky landscape.

We head north west from there and turn right at an intersection which leads to the Coll. From there we retrace the route via the Font to Galilea.  We begin in Galilea and head north from the village ascending sharply. The path passes through woodland and continues uphill joining a bumpy road/track. After nearly 3km we arrive at Font des Pi (550m).  We take a tree-sheltered path and after Coll des Carniceret fork left along a lesser, rocky path. At an intersection we turn right and ascend across rocky terrain to the summit of Galatzó.

After breaking for a snack and the chance to absorb the magnificent views we leave the summit on a steep, north westerly path, scrambling in places. At a junction we turn right on a rocky path and pass a fire lookout tower. At the Coll we rejoin the path on which we ascended and return to Galilea.

His attention to people’s safety and welfare during the hike was extremely reassuring and impressive.
